Who is involved

Four parties, one clear arrangement

Before doing anything, it is worth knowing who lends the money, who undertakes the install and where the hardware comes from.

A regulated lender

Zopa Bank is our lending partner, a UK digital bank authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the FCA and PRA.

Vetted and approved installers

Finance is offered exclusively through Segen approved installers via a Segen generated proposal, who are MCS certified and vetted for competence.

FCA authorised credit broker

Segen Limited, trading as Segen Finance is authorised and regulated by the FCA as a credit broker. We are the credit broker, Zopa is the lender.

Top quality solar hardware

All solar hardware in a financed installation is provided by Segen. We only supply premium quality hardware backed by supplier warranties.

How to apply

The basics, and how to apply.

Loans brokered through Segen Finance cover the full system cost. If accepted, the loan will be repaid to Zopa in fixed monthly instalments over your chosen term.

  1. Apply for finance

    In your proposal

Finance is presented within your proposal once you have accepted your quote. If applying for finance, you will be redirected to Zopa’s application site from here. The form only takes a few minutes to fill out. Once completed, Zopa will run a credit check and you will get a decision instantly.

  2. Cool-off period

    14 days

Once you sign your credit agreement, you have 14 days to cancel in case you change your mind. No work can proceed during this period, however you can still book in your installation during this time.

  3. Installation

    After cool-off

Your installer arranges delivery of the hardware, supplied by Segen, and undertakes the installation on your chosen date.

  4. Sign-off

    On completion

Once the system is installed and you are happy with it, both you and your installer will sign a Certificate of Acceptance confirming the job is complete.

  5. Repayments start

    Month after

Your first monthly repayment is taken on the date set out in your credit agreement, typically the month after sign-off.

You can apply if…

  • You own the home where the system will be installed, mortgaged properties qualify
  • You are aged 18 or over
  • You are a UK resident
  • You need between £500 and £50,000

  • The amount you need falls outside the £500 to £50,000 range

How long your finance offer lasts

Your finance agreement with Zopa remains valid for 12 months from the date you sign it, allowing you time to book in your installation without the finance falling away.

Separately, hardware prices are locked once you have been approved for finance and the installation date confirmed. If there are any issues before this please contact your installer to understand how to proceed.

Before you apply

FAQs

Will applying affect my credit score?

Applying involves a soft credit check when you first enquire, which does not affect your credit score. If you go on to apply for finance, Zopa runs a full credit check as part of that application, and this is recorded on your credit file.

Can I settle my loan early?

Yes. You can make early repayments, in part or full, at any time with no additional fees.

What if I have other debts?

As Zopa is the lender, they will assess your overall financial position when making a decision. Having a mortgage, credit card or other loan does not automatically prevent you from being accepted.

What happens if my installation is delayed?

Repayments do not start until your system is installed and both you and the installer have signed off on the job. If there is a delay after you sign the credit agreement with Zopa, the agreement remains valid for 12 months and your first repayment date is adjusted for after the job is completed.

What if I miss a repayment, or I'm worried about one?

Zopa will contact you and additional charges may apply; missed payments can affect your credit file. If you're worried about meeting a repayment, contact Zopa as early as possible, they have a dedicated team for customers in financial difficulty.

Who do I contact if I have an issue?

For questions about the installation, contact your installer. For questions about your application, the agreement, statements or a repayment difficulty, please contact Zopa Bank directly. If you have a complaint, please follow the complaint procedure here.
